Objectives:

Responsible for the management of engineering projects in support of the design, development, and scale-up of new equipment/processes for manufacturing medical device products. This position is also responsible for continuous improvement of existing technologies and processes using Six Sigma / Lean tools and techniques to ensure optimal performance. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also provide guidance to junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering expertise in support of the design, development, and scale-up of new products and processes. This includes equipment, methods, procedures, and specifications to ensure a timely transfer to Manufacturing.

  • Provide engineering expertise to continual improvement teams, developing process methods, designing / sourcing equipment, conducting feasibility / developmental trials, executing validation requirements, drafting documents / specifications / drawings, and providing on-the-job training to ensure the effective transfer / start-up of new / refined products / processes.

  • Manage the installation of equipment, including planning, team coordination, and project oversight.

  • Manage equipment and process validations, including creation of the protocol, identification of test requirements, analysis and presentation of results, and creation of the final report, in accordance with internal procedures and external regulations.

  • Utilize Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing principles and appropriate tools to drive continuous improvement of key operational measures (e.g., yield, velocity, takt time, cost, inventory, nonconformances) to enhance product and process quality.

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support and assist with complex maintenance issues to ensure that production requirements are satisfied.

  • Conduct mechanical testing, analyze results, and compile comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate project progress to management.

  • Offer technical support to production and maintenance departments, promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and improvement.

  • Maintain detailed project documentation, including cost analysis, time management, and coordination of engineering activities.

  • Lead the training and maintenance instruction for new equipment and fixtures to ensure smooth adoption by users.

  • Collaborate effectively with various teams throughout the development process to ensure the successful integration of engineering solutions.

Qualifications:

  1. BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. Advanced degree (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or related field is a plus.

  2. 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing setting.

  3. Experience with CNC lathing, PLC applications, and Automation is preferred.

  4. Proficiency with machine design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is preferred.

  5. Solid experience with complex machinery systems.

  6. Proven ability to manage projects and prioritize work.

  7. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, project management methodologies, and quality management systems preferred.

  8. Strong communication, analytical, and planning skills.

  9. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

  10. Proficient in common software applications including Microsoft Excel and Word.
