General Motors Senior Process Engineer – Rotating & Reciprocating in Warren, Michigan

Work Arrangement

Hybrid - This position requires the employee to be onsite a minimum of three days per week.

The Role

The individual contributor level process engineer role is designed to lead new product program, responsible for developing manufacturing processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of shafts & rods. Work is performed in central ME office as well as plant where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.

What You Will Do

Responsible for leading the following activities related to Rotating & Reciprocating area:

  • Current & Future Engine Launches : Automation Value Engineer required for Process Engineering & Equipment supplier management. Required skillsets include Crank, Cam & Connecting Rod processing, Robots, Gantries, Conveyance, End of Arm Tooling, Machine Interface, Controls & IT integration expertise.

  • Manufacturing process definition,

  • Preparing SORs (Statement of Requirements) for new and major programs,

  • Evaluation of supplier quotations

  • Completion of PFMEA

  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, delivery of all the process and equipment documentation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts.

  • Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources

  • Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.

  • Work may involve providing technical direction to and coordination of less experienced process engineers

  • Responsible for organizing parts for run off, raising MCRs as needed

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 5+ Experience in leading new and major engine components programs.

  • 5+ Manufacturing Engineering experience in engine and/or transmission machining.

  • Good understanding of metal machining processes.

  • Deep technical knowledge and ability in process engineering for machined engine components.

  • Knowledge and ability to implement GMS principles.

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and product design manufacturability.

  • Multiple different ME assignments with successful individual achievements or strong team-based achievements.

  • Plant experience preferred.
