Job Summary

Under direction, is responsible for performing advanced journey level work receiving, recording, warehousing, and distributing automobile parts, truck parts, and repair equipment. Working conditions are primarily in a shop environment with frequent travel to other sites and

exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, and dangerous materials and equipment. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.

Work Schedule

  • 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM Monday - Friday

  • 2nd Shift: 1:00 PM - 10:00 PM Monday - Friday

  • Shifts rotate every six weeks

Essential Job Functions

  • Orders parts, tires, chemicals, and equipment from vendors; obtains vendor quotes to validate pricing.

  • Recommends and maintains adequate inventory levels of stocked parts.

  • Prepares vendor invoices for payment.

  • Communicate with vendors regarding parts orders, quotes, invoices and credit memos.

  • Receives, prepares, opens, and closes repair orders and enters information into data system.

  • Utilizes procurement software such as San Antonio Electronic Procurement Systems (SAePS) to create shopping carts and log purchase orders.

  • Utilizes work order software such as FASTER to track parts and materials used in vehicle repairs.

  • Conducts research to locate correct part for order; may assist mechanic with verifying part needed.

  • Prepares and completes annual inventory of all parts and equipment, which involves occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Maintains appropriate records.

  • Occasionally drives vehicle to pick up parts.

  • Collects data on all parts and equipment for files and maintains records on the distribution of vehicles, parts, and equipment.

  • Receives radio and phone reports on vehicles and equipment needing repair and dispatches parts and equipment.

  • Participates in the training of new employees.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).

  • Three (3) years of warehouse experience with auto and truck parts.

  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License or have the ability to transfer Class C license to Texas within 90 days of employment.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of auto parts and equipment warehouse procedures and methods.

  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment specifications and inspection procedures and practices.

  • Knowledge of auto parts, truck parts, and auto repair equipment.

  • Knowledge of work order preparation techniques and procedures.

  • Knowledge of inventory control and monitoring procedures and practices.

  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs, to include purchasing software programs such as San Antonio Electronic Procurement System (SAePS), and fleet management software such as FASTER.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to develop vehicle and equipment repair orders.

  • Ability to coordinate and conduct annual inventory.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.

  • Ability to develop orders for new parts and equipment.

  • Ability to provide on the job training to new employees.

  • Ability to utilize a digital camera and upload pictures.

  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
