DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The responsibilities of the student will be to collaborate with experienced diesel and automotive mechanics to gain hands-on experience in the daily tasks performed on fleet equipment, including small engines. You will be expected to carry out minor repairs to enhance their understanding and build confidence. Additionally, students will shadow and support welders in various projects to familiarize themselves with welding tools and procedures. You will also assist in basic facility repairs alongside maintenance repair personnel. These tasks will be assigned gradually to enhance their knowledge and boost their confidence.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
  • This internship may begin summer 2024 and continue into the 2024/25 school year.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY: QUALIFICATIONS: Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years old at time of hire.
  • You must be enrolled in high school as a Junior or Senior during the 2024-2025 school year.
  • You must attach a letter of recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional.

Additional Requirement:

  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • Must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational training program that has prepared the student for the duties and the description of work described in this posting.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
