POSITION SUMMARY

The Worker’s Compensation Specialist is the subject matter expert for THNY workers’ compensation program. Is responsible for the maintenance and administration of the THNY self-insured group trusts.

Is also responsible for the in-house management of work-related injuries and an active participant in the claims administration process.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years’ experience in Worker’s Compensation claims administration; or an Associate’s degree in finance, insurance or other health-related field and 5+ years’ experience or 10+ years’ experience in self-insured trust administration.

NYS independent adjuster’s license preferred

Health care or industry experience preferred.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Strong written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal, motivational and conflict resolution skills. Broad-based knowledge of OSHA, NYS Worker’s Compensation law and other hospital related regulatory compliance requirements. Strong accounting or bookkeeping skills, able to produce metric analysis and reports, presentation skills, team player, negotiation/ crucial conversations skills and ability to influence change without direct authority.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Office and/or Clinical Setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sedentary work: requires sitting, standing, and walking.

WORK CONTACT GROUP: All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, various regulatory and professional agencies.

CAREER PATH: Management

Responsibilities:

Manages the reporting, review and analysis of Workers’ Compensation claims and litigation.

Prepares reports identifying trends, patterns, and findings in Worker’s Compensation claims.

Evaluates the extent and elements of exposure recommending appropriate actions for risk mitigation.

Supports TH Claims managers (CM) and the third-party administrator (TPA) in the management of Worker’s Compensation claims for THNY region.

Champions early return to work programs, safety, and other related programs to contribute to reduced incidents and lost time.

Develops and administers systems to track lost and restricted time.

Monitors reserves and assists TH CM in claim settlements and reserve adjustments.

Identifies and investigates claims for possible fraud, subrogation, contribution, recovery, controversion and case management opportunities to reduce total claim cost

Supports finance department in the management and oversight of WC self-insurance trust matters.

Serves as a resource to colleagues, managers, and directors related to Worker’s Compensation processes.

Supports special projects and business analysis as requested

Pay Range: $24.60 - $45.00

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
