UPMC Pathology Coordinator in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a Pathology Coordinator to support the Molecular & Genomic Pathology Laboratory, a dynamic, state-of-the-art clinical laboratory that prides itself on delivering the highest quality of patient care through cutting-edge testing and informatics. The Pathology Coordinator will provide operational and advanced-level support of clinical, research and commercial projects in the division as well as providing administrative support to medical leaders such as maintaining billing, project Excel databases, and scheduling needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and maintain records of administrative divisional responsibilities (eg, staff meeting minutes, lab administrative meetings with pathologists, travel accomodations, director's calendar).

  • Prepare budgets, analyze data, use software, create administrative/managerial reports as directed. Oversee the division's adherence to the budget and implement strategies to meet budget goals.

  • Maintain administrative aspects of training programs for residents and fellows (eg, scheduling, conference organization, recruitment, evaluations and regulatory issues).

  • Assist in coordinating clinical care activities by coordinating the flow of information from physicians and patients at outside institutions to the central divisional core.

  • Prepare faculty master schedules and organize divisional schedules for faculty and house officers (eg, service schedules, on-call schedules, conference schedules, and director's schedule).

  • Prepare annual reports related to divisional activities and workloads.

  • Work with other divisional office support as necessary to perform the mission of the division.

  • Understand the clinical, research, and educational mission of the division within the managed care medicine environment; coordinate projects and implement changes to respond to this environment.

  • Coordinate special projects and clinical programs, including the creation and negotiation of proposals, budgets, agreements, and contrcts between the division and outside entities.

  • Assist to coordinate and implement various clinical research projects and groups to meet division goals and objectives. Draft documents; independently manage grant funds to meet the budget.

  • Implement and direct organizational, procedural, and policy changes.

  • Demonstrate, consistently, the behaviors that do not comprise the Basics of Service Excellence.

  • Assist in coordinating various educational initiatives of the division (eg, curriculum development, continuing education courses, training & educational needs of visiting physicians and researchers).

  • Coordinates and implements the administrative aspects of all regulatory issues including quality control and quality assurance of the division.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Sciences or equivalent degree OR 3 - 5 years of administrative experience.

  • Strong business and accounting background

  • Experience/training in making independent assessments.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of the systems and functions of Pathology operations in a medical, academic environment is preferred.

  • Understanding of medical/research terminology and laboratory processes and functions is preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34
