The Mount Sinai Health System Assistant Director Admitting & Throughput-21400-WST-001 in New York, New York

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Employee must be proficient in the following areas:

Admissions and Registrations and Hospitality:

Assigns all patient beds and initiates patient bed transfers following departmental and hospital Procedures for MCH. Communicates with Housekeeping and/or Nursing regarding need and status of beds. Exercises Authority to make exceptions by placing patients in other than normal services. During a severe Red Day Visits each unit daily to assess bed availability. Insures beds are utilized efficiently to maximize the census while establishing correct bed geography. Monitors admissions for quality assurance Provide 24 hour on call coverage to ensure proper staffing and department operation Conduct monthly operational meeting with staff with managers Insures all admissions, transfers, and discharges are processed online as they occur Interact with various departments to ensure Patient/Guest satisfaction Perform cash reconciliation on a daily basis General Duties: Determine staffing levels for clerical support Create schedules and completes payroll Monitor abd evaluate job performance of clerical staff including the completion of annual evaluations. Quarterly lateness, and attendance Monitors maintenance of department equipment and supplies Perform quality improvement initiatives as needed Be a patient advocate with issues related to Admitting Recommend policies and procedures; evaluate systems Assist the Director to meet the department goal & objectives Assist in hiring, evaluation, and termination of employees Maintain JCAHO standards documentation, performing quality improvement activities, and monitoring outcomes. Must have the ability to develop a relationship of communicative success with senior nursing leadership to address policy and procedure compliance issues. Oversees, direct, and evaluates performance of department supervisors and managers.

Death Certificate completion Processes death certificates, pages physician if necessary, notifies supervisor if not completed in two two hours. Assures that notification to family is documented by the physician. Sends telegram if notification was not documented by the physician. Notify pathology when an autopsy is requested .

Notify morgue attendant for family members that wish to view a deceased family member. Discharge procedure Enters all discharge information into the computer immediately upon receipt. NYODN notification

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and deals tactfully with patients, their families, physicians, visitors, supervisory staff, peers and employees in other departments. Assists patients, etc. with questions concerning their bills, directions and problems Maintains all files, forms, office supplies and other Admitting material for the completion of work in your respective work area Answers telephones and addresses questions and problems in a courteous manner Attendance Punctuality

B. Organizational/Managerial Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. Observes the Health Care System’s compliance policies. C. Educational/Professional Development Participates in the development of other staff members. Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements. Identifies learning strengths and needs. Uses learning resources. D. Communication/Relationships Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others. Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community. . May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary.
