Job Description Summary

The EHS Manager plays a pivotal role in strengthening our dedication to safety excellence and regulatory compliance throughout the organization. This is an EHS generalist position that requires a leader who has strategic thinking and operational proficiency while being hands-on implementing EHS initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior leaders, operational teams, and external stakeholders to foster a safety-focused culture, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with local regulations and industry standards.

The EHS Manager is someone who can balance the broad range of safety activities, both strategic and operational and engage with a diverse workforce effectively. They will actively participate in operational activities, and role model positive cultural change to ensure high standards of environmental, health, and safety across the organization.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Management:

  • Advise and support Senior Leadership to fulfill their due diligence and duty of care obligations.

  • Develop when required, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

  • Guide leadership focus through performance metrics and trend analysis to enhance program effectiveness.

  • Establish priority focus areas for a risk reduction strategy, aligning actions with business KPIs.

  • Design, develop, and execute safety initiatives tailored to meet the needs of the business.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into business processes and decision-making.

Operational Management:

  • Implement risk management programs to assess defences, identify improvement opportunities, and prioritize solutions.

  • Encourage People Leaders to reinforce positive safety behaviours through Genba walks and other engagement strategies.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions.

  • Operationalize EHS Management systems, ensuring front-line leaders take ownership of framework elements.

  • Lead event analysis for investigations, including near misses and injuries, and drive corrective actions.

  • Manage workers' compensation and injury management, including return to work coordination.

  • Coordinate incident investigation and reporting processes to prevent recurrence and improve overall safety performance.

  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, customer inquiries, and third-party auditors regarding EHS matters.

EHS Management System:

  • Facilitate and coordinate the global EHS framework for local compliance.

  • Participate as an auditor in Governance/Business Level audits.

  • Represent the business on global initiatives, facilitating communication with regional EHS peers.

  • Stay up to date with emerging EHS trends and regulations, recommending enhancements to health & safety programs, and make recommendations.

Training & Qualifications:

  • Develop EH&S Training Plans aligned with annual Objectives and Targets.

  • Ensure staff are trained and certified to meet GEHC, State, and National safety requirements.

  • Provide training and educational programs on EHS policies, procedures, and safe work practices.

Cultural Uplift:

  • Organize safety awareness campaigns, recognition programs for safe behavior, and regular safety meetings to keep safety top of mind for all employees.

  • Foster a positive safety culture through effective communication

  • Commitment to leading by example and promoting behaviours that reinforce a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

  • Ability to collaborate with operational teams to integrate EHS considerations into day to day processes and decision making

Quality Specific Goals:

  • Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.

  • Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines.

  • Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in EHS management, preferably in the medical device industry.

  • Strong knowledge of local regulations and industry standards related to EHS.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Certification in EHS (e.g., CSP, CIH, CMIOSH) preferred.

  • Experience in workers' compensation management and return to work coordination is advantageous.

  • Capability to communicate EHS policies, procedures, and expectations clearly and concisely to ensure understanding and compliance across all levels of the organization.
