JOB DESCRIPTION:

This person is responsible for developing and maintaining a suite of software products and models for the engineering organization. Our primary software product is the centrifugal chiller performance prediction and selection software at the heart of our engineering and sales organizations. The selection software supports our global sales organization for Trane centrifugal (CenTraVac) chillers. Our other software products enable engineering teams to model performance and develop new high-efficiency products worldwide. This person will partner directly with our engineering and product support teams, so success in this key role requires collaboration with subject matter experts to translate engineering and customer needs into software solutions. This person will be an integral modeling engineer in the ongoing maintenance and model development of new products for our performance prediction engine to deliver more sustainable software solutions and meet business needs.

• Become familiar with Trane Technologies HVAC Products, specifically Chillers and Chiller Heaters.

• Develop 1D components and systems models, including refrigeration system, electrical system, compressor, and power electronics, and other sub-systems for HVAC products.

• Work as component model Subject Matter Expert to lead the development and discussion in related project development from multiple business units

• Capable of leading lab testing for model validation purposes

• Propose modeling and implementation changes into supporting software tools to meet engineering requirements.

• Collaborate with product support to understand and translate customer needs.

• Validate monthly software updates to ensure accuracy.

• Work with IT to resolve integration issues between the selection software and GUI.

• Lead the resolution of field issues with selection code, performance data, and user interface using root cause analysis.

• Continuously improve selection code efficiency, cultivate novel features, and enhance overall capability.

• Explore and understand industry best practices and facilitate adoption of new practices for modeling.

• Continuous improvement mindset and ability to understand process and facilitate process improvements.

• Understanding of overall software portfolio and system architecture.

• Investigation of new technologies into technology stack.

• Coaching and Mentoring of other team members.

• Manage changes with the team through commercial software release.

• Participation in project process to develop solution approaches that meet project goals and objectives.

• Prepare complete schedules and reports for assigned projects, including presentations to stakeholders.

• Estimating work effort and documentation of assumptions and confidence of estimate.

• Utilize version control software to participate in change management as part of our development process.

• Participates in license management and AOP Planning of software licenses and procurement of new software technologies through purchasing process.

• Communicating value of feature changes to Engineering, Product Management, and Senior Leadership.

KEY COMPETENCIES

• Strong analytical problem solving skills, attention to detail, and project management skills.

• Understanding of the refrigeration cycle and the associated physical hardware as applied to centrifugal chillers.

• Familiarity with the use of lab data to verify hardware or models.

• Understanding numerical methods as they apply to optimization and linear equation solvers.

• Demonstrated ability to work directly with users to translate user feedback to development requirements, resolve user issues, and prioritize development schedule.

• Interest in data science or analytics and helping teams reach conclusions supported by data.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Typical office environment spending the majority of their time using computers. Accommodations will be evaluated where needed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Modeling Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical degree. Master’s Degree is a bonus.

• 8+ years of relevant work experience in a software development environment implementing models into software.

• Able to demonstrate an understanding of programming logic or programming experience with at least one of the following: VB.NET, C#, Java, C++, FORTRAN.

• Experience with Python, Matlab, or other modeling languages.

• Experience with Dymola, Flowmaster, Flownex, Softinway Axnet, Aft Arrow, or other modeling tools.

• Experience with modeling of susbsystems to predict performance.

• Experience leading teams through software development and testing using Agile methodology with remote teams.

• Experience with software to predict performance of equipment.

• Experience with software development and testing using Agile methodology with remote teams.

• Experience with Application, Database, and Server Administration.

• Knowledge of Engineering Process such as DFMEA and DVP are a bonus.

• Database Experience, preferably with Oracle or MySQL is a bonus

• Experience building applications using a database technology.

Base Compensation Range is $115,000 - $145,000.

Disclaimer: This base salary range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
