Vance County Chief Building Codes Enforcement Officer in Henderson, North Carolina

The Chief Building Codes Enforcement Officer serves in a leadership capacity and is responsible for reviewing and approving commercial and non-commercial building permit requests, plan reviews, overseeing field building inspections of code enforcement officers and for conducting inspections of construction and installation work in process to enforce State codes for buildings construction and insulation. Work involves organizing and assigning work to others and performing skilled inspections on more complex projects. Work also includes fire inspections and enforcing a variety of County development ordinances. Considerable independent technical judgment is required to interpret provisions of established, but constantly changing, codes as applied to practical construction projects and circumstances and to serve as a technical resource to other inspectors. Inspections may require physical effort and are performed under hazards present in dealing with construction work in progress. Supervisory work includes preparing the department budget and purchasing supplies. The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, close quarters and hot and cold temperatures. Work is also subject to noise and dusts. Tact, courtesy, and firmness must be exercised in dealing with contractors and the general public. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the County Manager and is evaluated through observation, conferences, review of reports and records, and contractor and citizen feedback.
