Amazon Software Development Engineer II, Ring Data Science and Engineering in Hawthorne, California

Our Ring Data Science and Engineering (RDSE) team is at the heart of this goal, ensuring that we can harness the power of data to innovate and improve the experience for millions of customers around the world. We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to build and scale our RDSE systems.

Ring is expanding and this role will be key in the development of cutting-edge solutions for collecting, storing, and analyzing vast amounts of data. This role will both inherit existing and build new services to enhance observability across Ring devices, mobile apps, and cloud services.

Key job responsibilities

• Design, implement, and deploy software to allow customers to onboard data assets into the Ring Data Science and Engineering ecosystem

• Implement optimal security practices while scaling existing and new data services

• Develop and implement capabilities to search metadata assets and build interfaces to aid in data discovery

• Lead operational excellence practices within the team and perform one week on-call rotation a maximum of every four weeks

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align solutions with business needs

• Ensure best practices and architectural guidelines are followed, with a strong focus on cloud-optimized solutions

• Explore methods to implement machine learning and other artificial intelligence tools into services and developer workflows

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Strong technical expertise in data management systems, including experience in high-volume data collection, storage, and analysis

  • Deep understanding of scalable distributed systems and cloud-based solutions, preferably AWS

  • Knowledge of software development life cycle and operational excellence practices

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Proven experience with modern data management technologies such as Apache Flink, Spark, Kafka, Kubernetes, and Kinesis

  • Proven experience with infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation

  • Proven experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Data Dog, or Grafana

  • Understanding and experience with security and privacy requirements around data collection

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
