Position Overview

The Grade Foreperson will be responsible for field operations for any Earthwork/Roadway/Grading project and will directly supervise and coordinate activities of grading crew. This position may also engage in the trade work of the employees being supervised.

Pay ranges from $26 to $31, based on experience.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) Directly supervises grading crew, and reports work to Superintendent. Responsible for schedule and organize day to day operations for grading/pipe/construction crews. Instruct, train, and monitor employees in the performance of their duties and in the proper use of equipment. Directs grading, milling, and trucking to create a smooth efficient workplace. Work with project managers, engineers, technicians, and surveyors to implement construction plants. Estimate time and resource requirements for projects. Maintain records of equipment, supplies, and labor hours for projects. Coordinate ordering of equipment and materials. Ensure operators properly maintain and thoroughly clean equipment and hand tools.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required. 3 years+ experience as a Foreperson in heavy construction industry is preferred. CDL Preferred.

Work Requirements Ability to work under occasional supervision. Must be 18 years of age or older. Superior organizational skills and detail oriented to ensure accuracy and quality. Must uphold company values and have a positive attitude with employees, subcontractors, and clients. Must be knowledgeable of OSHA, and MSHA regulations. Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure. Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines. Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. PPE may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required up to 10% of the time).

Knowledge/Skill Requirements Knowledge of the areas of dirt work, including excavation, grade work, surveying, and final excavating work. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment. To perform this job successfully, an individual should be to work in constant exposure to the outside elements, in all weather conditions. Ability to work in a safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment. Ability to write simple correspondence.
