Description:

Our client is a multi-disciplinary architecture and engineering firm located in Evansville, IN. They provide full-service consulting and design/build services on a variety of industrial, institutional, and commercial projects across the tri-state area. This opening is on their structural engineering team. They are supported by several drafters and a mechanical team who assists with industrial projects. This group works on a variety of projects; mostly institutional or industrial (2/3rds of workload) and some commercial work with schools, hospitals, etc. (1/3 of workload).

With our client being multi-disciplinary, they do bring in a variety of work that might be brought in from a different group that has structural elements to it (i.e. the architectural team might be doing a school renovation and the structural team would assist on the structural elements). This allows for quite a bit of variety in projects and also keeps them very steady with workload.

Responsibilities for this role:

• Utilize computer design software for design. This includes knowledge of building construction materials, general connection types used in construction and brace & moment frame design.

• The ability to interpret and apply the structural sections of the building code (i.e. seismic, wind and snow drift loading).

• Design and layout of commercial and industrial building steel systems including foundations.

• Detailed design of steel, concrete, concrete block and other common structural materials for building projects.

• Development of construction document packages based on the project requirements and application. This will include project coordination with other disciplines (mechanical, architectural and electrical), directing drafting personnel and checking project construction documents.

• Review of job specific material specifications.

• Attend client meetings in order to clearly understand job/owner requirements and expectations (project review meetings, construction meetings and project closeout meetings).

• Develop engineering scopes after helping client determine project requirements.

• Project shop drawing and submittal review.

• On-site inspections of structural system installations.

• Conduct on-site surveys to establish and document accurate field conditions.

• Direct drafting personnel to develop project documents and check their work.

• Ability to perform own drafting when necessary (AutoCAD and/or Revit)

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Must-Haves:

• BS in Civil Engineering

• 3+ years of specific structural engineering experience- open to industrial, institutional and commercial experience (no residential)

** This individual needs to be able to perform layouts, create drawings, review shop drawings, and answer questions from the GC or subs

• Proficiency to create drawings in AutoCAD or Revit

• Ability to use RISA- they use this for both 2D and 3D modeling (open to similar engineering software)

• Must be open to occasionally visit job sites and move around the structure

Nice-to-Have:

• PE would be great

• Revit

• direct experience with industrial projects and/or within design/build
