Description of Job

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and is responsible for supervising, coordinating, oversite, planning, and implementation of transition programs consistent with State of Colorado Department of Education transition requirements at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind.

JOB FUNCTIONS

• Ensure implementation of the Bridges to Life transition program is consistent with the special education regulations, school policies and applicable state laws and regulations.

• Oversee the Concurrent Enrollment programs campus-wide for students in high school programs and the Bridges to Life transition program, which is coordinated by the CSDB Guidance Counselor.

• Oversee the CSDB Mainstreaming program, which is coordinated by the CSDB Guidance Counselor.

• Oversee the campus-wide Substitute Teacher and Substitute Te111porary Aide process, which is coordinated by the Bridges to Life Administrative Assistant.

• Attend district, region, and State meetings pertaining to transition practices, including the Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team (PPITT) monthly meetings.

• Support teachers with curriculum, Bridges to Life class and program schedule development, planning and programming aligned with state and school expectations.

• Recruit, select, assign, supervise, evaluate, coordinate and recommend termination as necessary the work of assigned staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff and volunteers consistent with school policies and procedures in coordination with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

• Provide direction, guidance and support to students to maintain a positive, safe and orderly school climate, consistent with school policies and procedures related to student discipline and incident reporting.

• Ensure the safety of students within on-campus and off-campus programs provided by the Bridges to Life Program including transportation to and from off-campus activities, job placements, and educational trips.

• Determine needs and make recommendations concerning the acquisition of curriculum, technology, supplies, equipment and specially designed aids necessary to teach and to meet the needs of students who are served by the Bridges to Life program.

• Direct and coordinate working relationships among instructional, related service, and other staff. Work directly with other Program Administrators to promote the achievement of schoolwide goals, to include goals within the residential area.

• Work collaboratively with State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, community partners, and employers for the benefit of students participating within the BtL programs.

• Facilitate Bridges to Life team meetings.

• Attend student IEP meetings, Student Support Team meetings, and other meetings.

• Maintain staff and student files.

• Oversee Bridges to Life budget and supplies.

• Schedule, develop, facilitate, and monitor all Bridges to Life trainings.

• Revise Bridges to Life program handbook, Student Employment Agreement, Student Volunteer Agreement, and other program paperwork as needed.

• Develop brochures and other promotional/informational materials for the Bridges to Life transition program.

• Oversee the collection of data to maintain accountability.

• Report on student data as required.

• Organize, support, and attend staff, student, family, and community partner events to include an annual employer appreciation event and a bi-annual college, career, and agency fair.

• Oversee and ensure open communication between Bridges to Life staff, families, providers, and other depa11ments.

• Collaborate effectively with other staff in providing student instruction, support school reform efforts, achievement of strategic plan goals, and contribute positively to co-curricular activities.

• Coordinate with Facilities staff to ensure the care and safekeeping of school buildings, grounds, and all equipment therein.

• Collaborates with the director of curriculum instruction and assessment and program administrators around transition topics.

• Maintain State of Colorado professional Licensure.

• Positively serves as a team member and of the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) as a whole; and participates in regular team and departmental meetings, school and instructional meetings as required.

• Participates in activities related to professional development and training/workshops as appropriate.

• Attend CSDB sporting events as Administrator on Duty at least one time each athletic season or as needed.

• Assist in campus-wide Bus and Lunch duties as assigned.

• Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's Degree in Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university.

• Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State of Colorado, endorsed as a Special Education Specialist: Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Special Services, or comparable endorsement.

• 3 years of experience teaching experience preferred.

• Must hold, be eligible for, or able to obtain within one (I) year from hire, appropriate qualifications to meet Colorado Evaluator Certification.

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Advanced (3) skill level as demonstrated through an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy/ procedure required within three years of hire.

• Must have or be willing to attain basic skills and awareness of best practices in instruction for students with who are Deaf/ Hard of Hearing.

• Braille proficiency as demonstrated by completion of the UEB on line training modules and obtain the certificate of completion.

• Must have or be willing to attain basic braille skills and awareness of best practices in instruction for students with blindness/visual impairments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKTLLS, ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of and ability to apply current standards-based educational and behavioral practices with students who are transition-aged.

• Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to e-mail, Internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from CSDB.

• Knowledge of and ability to effectively adapt and apply skills, to a technology-rich environment, which may include but is not limited to on-site learning environments, telepresence, and multiple distance education technologies and delivery modes; ability to effectively implement technology necessary to model, teach, and assist students relative to instruction and activities.

• Ability to establish high standards for what students must know and be able to do.

• Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.

• Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback.

• Ability to work cooperatively with others and participate effectively in a team setting.

• Strong, positive interpersonal skills.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to and is evaluated by the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Part-time; scheduled to work the standard number of days in the academic year (as per the established School Calendar, currently 195 days, August to June), with I0 (ten) additional days for a total of 205 days.

• The annual base salary shall be established pursuant to the Teacher Salary Schedule, based upon appropriate education and experience.

• Employment is at-will, with no actual, expressed, or implied contract.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Generally speaking, the work is performed in a typical school office environment and involves sedentary to light physical activity, requiring exertion of up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Typically, workers are required to climb stairs, bend, reach, and handle objects, and use fingers to operate computer and/or typewriter keyboard. Work requires expression or exchange of ideas and the ability to receive detailed information. Work requires ability to compare, compile, analyze, and coordinate data/ information; ability to instruct/train others; and ability to utilize effective interpersonal skills / behaviors.

In addition, work at the elementary school level involves heavy physical activity, requiring exertion of up to l00 lbs. of force occasionally, and routinely requires stooping, kneeling, crouching and

crawling. Work at the middle school / high school level involves very heavy physical activity, requiring exertion in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally. Work with Special Needs students will require exertion of force frequently.
