Biweekly Hours: 80.00

Shift: 2200 to 0600

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Lieutenant, assists in the supervision of personnel involved in establishing, promoting, and maintaining hospital security and property protection programs, and/or performs support services for the department. May perform all the normal duties of Patrolman, Dispatcher, and/or Corporal in addition to duties associated with this role. Promotes positive public and staff relations and upholds the reputation of the uniform/department. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of the MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required: High School Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam. Age 21 or older. Three to five years of experience in the field of security management or law enforcement. Private Security Officer’s Training Course with Firearms Course (semiautomatic pistols) or Police Officer Basic Academy (both must meet requirements and be sanctioned by Ohio Police Officer Training Commission). Background check that is acceptable to the Director and Chief of Public Safety. Obtains a Cleveland Commission to carry firearms within 120 days of employment. Required to achieve and maintain department’s qualifying firearms score for duration of employment. Must be able to maintain minimum skill based competencies as identified by the department during term of employment. Possesses a valid Ohio driver’s license (and ability to obtain and maintain eligibility of insurability as determined by the MHS insurance carrier’s requirements to operation MHS vehicles) and reliable transportation to report to alternate sites during shift. Knowledge of the concepts/processes of laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of deadly force, and physical security systems. Must understand the permitted actions appropriate to the commission held. High degree of analytical ability to investigate incidents, interpret and translate information (including for use as evidence of prosecution) and other criminal justice and administrative processes. High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential MHS data and resources. Advanced communications skills to include following de-escalation verbal strategies and written grammar, etc. to produce professional reports/documents. A psychological evaluation from a MetroHealth System designated Psychologist which demonstrates satisfactory psychological fitness commensurate with the role of an armed officer.

Preferred Previous supervisory experience in the Security or Law Enforcement Field. Associates or Bachelor Degree in a job-related field. Certification through International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security as a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) HPA or American Society of Industrial Security as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Professional Certified Investigator (PCI). The ability to be commissioned by the Ohio Secretary of State pursuant to ORC 4917(D).

Physical Requirements: If hired after 11/1/14, will be required to pass a physical agility/fitness test that is based on essential job requirements. Thereafter, must pass the test annually to maintain employment. Must maintain adequate physical fitness level to perform essential physical aspects of the job effectively with minimized risk to self and others. To include: o Full body motion, physical strength, and stamina sufficient to chase, apprehend, and/or subdue individuals. o Approximately 2 minutes continuous physical conflict on an occasional basis. o Physical ability to run in spurts and ascend/descend multiple flights of steps quickly. o Drag loads of < 200 lbs. on a rare basis, lift loads < 88 lbs. on an occasional basis, and lift loads of < 40 lbs. on a regular basis. o Jumping, climbing and crawling on an occasional basis. o Standing/walking < 4 hours walking without rests, twice during an eight hour shift. o Walk approximately 5 miles per shift. o Able to drive in a vehicle for extended periods of time (60 minutes or more continuously). o Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to perform duties. o Have uncorrected vision of not less than 20/100 in both eyes, corrected to 20/40 or better, with peripheral vision and color vision consistent with the occupational demands of the job. o Have normal hearing in each ear (hearing aids are acceptable if candidate can demonstrate sufficient hearing proficiency to perform the duties of the job.
