Citigroup Product Manager, Export & Agency Finance (Up to Senior Vice President) - JPN - Treasury & Trade Solutions in Chiyoda, Japan

Description:

Trade (“Trade”), is part of the industry leading Services (“SVCS”) division of Citi. Export and Agency Finance (“EAF”) is a product segment within Trade and under this scope, Citi arranges short-, medium- and long-term structured financing solutions, supported by export credit agencies, development finance institutions and multilateral agencies (together the “Official Agencies”).

Citi operates as a global platform to originate, lead, arrange, participate and syndicate bespoke structured financings that manage risk through credit and political risk support from sovereign agencies and/or accessing their funding programs.

The selected candidate, reporting to the EAF Japan Cluster Head, will have the responsibility to lead origination and execution in collaboration with EAF Sales colleagues globally, through the whole life cycle of deals from mandate, structuring and approvals through to client negotiation and execution, mainly focused on Japanese Government Agencies such as JBIC, NEXI and JICA. The candidate is expected to be able to act with a level of autonomy (depending on the position offered) in both execution and working with the client coverage organization to seek out and pitch for new opportunities, especially those transactions where Official Agency support can be used to the benefit of Citi’s clients.

This position is a senior leadership position within EAF Japan if the position is offered as SVP, with an expectation to support the Cluster Head in driving strategic initiatives as senior transactor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead origination of Official Agency-supported solutions for clients on global basis that has interest to work with Japanese Government Agencies.

  • Contribute as a transactor and drive strategy for EAF Japan growth.

  • Work with and collaborate with key risk, product and banking stakeholders and collaborate with other products such as Trade, Markets, Loans and DCM teams as needed to deliver strategic growth initiatives.

  • Have key desire to champion certain key industries as well have keen interest to develop ESG solutions which include focus on both E and S.

  • Develop calling plans and marketing strategies depending on current and evolving global and regional themes across key countries.

  • Lead deal pricing/returns decisions and work with coverage & capital management organizations to bring in cross sell which includes other Trade and Banking products.

  • Advise clients on how to prepare for Official Agencies credit and due diligence process including in assisting in preparation of information memorandums & projections.

  • Have ability to work closely with Lawyers & Counsels to lead negotiation of mandate / deal documentation and drive approval/alignment with internal and external stakeholders (Risk, Banking, borrowers, agency teams).

  • Supervise deal closing and booking procedures, including monitor facility booking as well as revenue mapping.

  • Ongoing transaction support as required for waivers and amendments.

  • Collaborate with Trade on joint initiatives across products for the wider Trade growth strategy.

  • Collaborate and contribute to the EAF global strategy.

  • Work with the various ESG and Social Finance teams towards developing risk share solutions to support lending to ESG projects.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Excellent knowledge of the Export & Agency Finance business, with experience in dealing with export credit, development finance and/or multilateral agencies.

  • Up to date knowledge of the EAF market, including borrowers, sellers and investors.

  • Debt Structuring, Arranging, and syndication experience.

  • Knowledge of credit risk and processes.

  • Loan documentation experience.

  • Project management/execution.

  • Asset/Infrastructure and/or project finance financing experience is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and written skills.

  • Native level Japanese speaking / writing skill

  • Superior organizational skills (including self-organizational skills).

  • Superior analytical skills.

  • Team management and leadership.

  • Ability to form strategic partnerships with other partners, both external and internal

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • 3 to 10+ years relevant experience in a relevant function to EAF depending on the position offered.

  • Strong origination and selling skills.

  • Demonstrated origination track record.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional organization and process management ability.

  • Good people skills, able to motivate/influence others.

  • Ability to operate in a complex matrix environment.

  • Ability to work as a partner.
