Element Materials Technology Payroll Director in Blue Ash, Ohio

Overview

The Payroll Director will oversee payroll processing activities for Element Materials Technology and is responsible for management and development of the payroll team.

This position will ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, manage related tax filings, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and internal policies. Other responsibilities include developing, documenting, and implementing best practices for our diverse multistate and Canadian Multi Provincial payroll functions. The Payroll Department maintains all payroll records and reconciliations, in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

This is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, document, and implement processes and controls necessary for payroll processing.

  • Continuously improve processes, systems, and controls to drive improved efficiency and effectiveness of payroll functions.

  • Drive projects and initiatives that will further improve the payroll function and its integration with other systems and processes.

  • Interface with internal and external partners to implement systems and process changes.

  • Ensure Payroll team is properly trained on new or enhanced application systems.

  • Assist in annual corporate audit, defined contribution plan, and worker’s compensation audits.

  • Respond to employees’ inquiries when they are unclear about a salary change, medical benefits, and taxation.

  • Collaborate with Talent & Knowledge to research, investigate, and resolve discrepancies, prior to processing (i.e. salary changes, benefit updates, additional and special payments).

  • Analyze and report on financial data related to Payroll.

  • Support ad hoc projects and initiatives.

Skills / Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has 10+ years’ experience as a Payroll Director or a similar role, including team management and leadership.

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of payroll administration, tax procedures and standard practices as it relates to employee data requirements for hiring, terminations, benefits, compensation plans and administrative guidelines for US and Canada.

  • Prior experience with Ceridian Dayforce preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree with deep experience in the payroll profession or demonstrated experience in lieu of degree.

  • Additional advanced degrees and / or certifications in the profession (e.g. Certified Payroll Professional / CPP) preferred.

  • Memberships in relevant professional organizations (e.g. APA, SHRM) preferred.
