Google Database Engineer, Cloud SQL Server in Bengaluru, India

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent practical experience

  • 3 years of experience with designing, installation, and managing SQL Server/SQL with a focus on performance, security, scalability, reliability, availability, and disaster recovery.

  • Experience with database internals, diagnose memory leaks, data corruption, replication, database performance, and tuning.

  • Experience with scripting, automation, exposure to SQL/PL-SQL, and languages such as Python, Go, or Java.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in migrating mission-critical database applications from on-premise to cloud, or running in a hybrid cloud environment for large enterprise.

  • Experience working in a fast-moving dynamic organization with extensive cross-collaboration with various functions such as Support, Software Engineering, and Product Management.

  • Experience supporting large enterprise customers with high service-level objective (SLO) and service-level agreement (SLA) requirements.

  • Experience building and packaging database components in Kubernetes (K8s).

  • Experience in technical consulting on database design and architecture.

As a Database Engineer at Google, you design, implement and maintain our relational database systems for performance and reliability. You're responsible for tuning and configuring our databases as well as building tools and scripts to monitor, troubleshoot and automate our systems. You propose test plans and interface with external groups, developers and application owners

to arrive at optimal solutions. Other areas of responsibility include designing and enhancing disaster

recovery and backup systems. As you are writing automation for hundreds of machines, pages are serving up in real time, which means that the user has a seamless browsing experience.

With your technical expertise, you design, implement and improve processes, procedures and automation for all database-centric areas. You also test the systems in place and interface with external groups.

As a Database Engineer, you will design and implement a highly reliable managed database offering with a focus on security, performance, and scale to meet the requirements of enterprise customers. Our mission is to empower organizations to adopt a seamless database offering that is fully managed by Google Cloud Platform (GCP), removing the overhead of support, maintenance, and allowing them to focus on solving business processes and workflows.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of cloud transformation in the Relational database space and build the next-generation SQL Server offerings. You will provide a perfect blend of database engineering, customer interaction, software development, and enterprise consulting.

  • Identify customer pain points, help improve customer self-service models through software enhancements, tools, documentation, guidelines.

  • Develop relationships with key enterprise customers, address issues, recommend best practices, instance sizing, database settings, extensions. Help customers perform experiments, scale with different configurations to tune Google Cloud SQL instances for their workloads.

  • Engage with the SQL Server community, share database expertise.

  • Provide advisory and training to the Engineering team.

  • Provide input to the product roadmap and strategy, prioritizing pre-existing initiatives to drive multifold returns for Cloud business and the production teams.
