Automation is on the rise, bringing complexity with it. We need a superstar Software Development Manager to join and expand a core team at the heart of Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT): The Capacity Planning & Platform team.

As the team's Software Development Manager, you'll lead the software development effort and drive the technical and architectural vision for a platform that models (in real-time) the capacity and constraints for millions of customer shipments moving through Amazon's global network of hundreds of fulfillment centers.

Who are we? The Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) group builds and operates the software, hardware, and processes that run our global network of fulfillment centers. These centers move many millions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want, when we promised it. We achieve this by building automated solutions (using linear optimization systems) to handle tasks best suited for technology, while relying on our people for tasks requiring human expertise. The Capacity Planning & Platform team is a group within AFT that builds and maintains real-time models of capacity and constraints within Amazon Fulfillment Centers. This ensures on-time package delivery while driving continuous improvement and cost-optimization.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for a highly talented software development manager to lead our software team in Bellevue, WA. In this role, you will partner with business and technical teams to design and document requirements, and develop technical strategies and software roadmaps for delivery of features. You will be leading a passionate group of engineers in architecting and developing large scale distributed technology solutions and also innovating new ideas and providing technology directions to our business in the domain of imports and exports logistics.

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network. Outbound Flow

AFT’s Outbound Flow team pairs data science with innovative technologies to optimize throughput within every Amazon fulfillment center. We deliver smiles for Amazon customers with safe, sustainable, cost-effective, on-time package deliveries.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience

• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
