Job Overview

The Medical Interpreter, Sr. is responsible for performing full level interpretation and translation work while providing training and mentoring to less experienced or junior interpreters in the related principles, methods and techniques related to interpretation and translation.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience: Spoken and written fluency in Spanish, English or other foreign language with a minimum of a combination of three (3) years of translation/interpretation experience. Equivalency: Certification(s): Certified as a Bridging the Gap (BTG) Medical Interpreter or equivalent is required at the time of hire. This position may require a BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Click on the following link and enter your zip code to find an appropriate class near you. Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE No direct patient care, but will provide interpretive services to patients and families of all ages. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Provides full level interpretation services for patients, families, associates and staff. Provides full translation services including discharge instructions and other documents as assigned by the department. Mentors junior interpreters during pre-arranged training sessions with focus on helping them to becoming linguistically and culturally responsive. Participates in evaluations of new hires by providing feedback and observations to the manager. Assists the department manager in completing assessments on ongoing raining and overall interpretation or translation processes. Participates in department programs or assigned projects as applicable. Maintains competency with medical terminology by specialty. Utilizes the hospital's electronic medical record system and trains junior interpreters in it use, including documentation regarding appointments, accessing patient medical records, provide statistics and other duties specific to the department.
