Excelsior Orthopaedics Group Surgery Scheduler in Amherst, New York

Job Summary

Surgery scheduling specialists act as a liaison between patient and physician, schedules all surgeries and pre-operative tests, and counsels patients prior to surgery regarding financial responsibility. .

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedules procedures at facility along with any pre-procedure testing required.

  • Informs patients of co-pay/co-insurance/payment responsibilities prior to procedure.

  • Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for the procedure.

  • Discusses pre-operative testing and instructions with the patient, as directed by physicians.

  • Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery/procedure.

  • Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patient and carriers regarding planned surgeries.

  • Maintains communication among the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital at all times.

  • Utilizes technology to collect patient insurance information.

  • Collaborates with physician facilities and utilizes technical resources to obtain pre-procedure clearances and testing.

  • Collaborates with BSC, Excelsior and other physician facilities to maximize BSC scheduling.

  • Collaborates across departments at Excelsior and the BSC to create optimal patient experiences.

  • Effectively and efficiently schedules using EMR technology.

  • Creates and maintains job aids for job consistency as directed by supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements and Qualifications

  • Associates degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required.

  • 4+ years medical office experience; orthopedic setting preferred.

  • 2+ years prior surgical scheduling experience preferred.

  • EMR experience required; MEDENT preferred, SIS preferred

    Physical Demands

  • Position requires manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Involves standing, sitting, and walking.

  • Team member will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
