Position Overview
A Field Engineer I is responsible for collecting and collating field data required to facilitate OSP designs. They work on-site, analyzing real-world conditions, enhancing efficiency, and customer service. They will assist our organization in increasing client satisfaction, improving efficiency, managing risk, diagnosing problems, and complying with laws and regulations. The ideal candidate for this role should possess excellent technical skills, be a good communicator, and pay meticulous attention to detail. The exceptional field engineer should diagnose and resolve problems, improve efficiency, mitigate risk, encourage business growth, and enhance and sustain relations with clients.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct field and site visits relevant to project information, including exact measurements of existing equipment, site details, digital images, etc. which will then be coordinated with the OSP Engineer for further design
Read and interpret client records and drawings
Collect pertinent information to apply for permits and easements
Perform inspections during and after construction to ensure compliance with original designs and customer specifications
Work closely with Field Engineering team lead to ensure priority schedule is followed
Work safely and independent of supervision
Conduct research to diagnose and develop solutions
Maintenance of equipment and infrastructure and installation of new technology
Analysis of field conditions, communicating conditions to project management and engineering team
Generate reports and maintain records of fiber splicing and topography
Improve efficiency and safety
Performs construction and maintenance of OSP infrastructure according to industry standards
Maintain safety and security of OSP facility
Monitor and control expenses within the allotted budget
Communicate the assigned projects within the defined scope and timelines
Perform route analysis and develop aerial and underground fiber route maps
Handle fiber verification and mapping activities
Use GIS and other software to develop engineering designs
Perform routine inspections of OSP networks
Get state and local permits as required to execute OSP projects
Assisting with OSP designs, creation, and assisting as needed
All other projects or duties as assigned
Requirements
Attention to detail
Valid driver's license
High school education or equivalent; Degree in engineering preferred
Aptitude for acquiring and retaining technical knowledge
Computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite required
Effective time management and organization
Excellent Communication skills and problem-solving skills
Critical and analytical thinking skills
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and integrity
Flexibility to work different shifts and ability to travel
Telecommunications experience preferred
Field Engineering experience preferred
Utility pole data collection experience preferred
ERSI and Arc Pro and GIS experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment, work in inclement weather, stand, and drive for extended periods of time
Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas
Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable and sustained use of your arms, legs, and moving your entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, sitting standing, and handling materials up to 75lbs
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment
